First of all ... a percent is a fraction where the denominator is 100.

A percent is a number with a '%' at the end.

Percent means 'out of 100' because 'cent' means 100 and 'per' means 'out of'.

The Vocab you'll need to know ..

Fraction has a numerator(part) and a denominator (whole; cannot be zero)

Numerator is the top part of the fraction or the PART .

Denominator is the bottom part of the fraction or the WHOLE.

Ratios tells how one number is related to another number

Decimals are the numerical expression of a percent.

what is 50%?

50% is half of one 100. to get it you divide 100 by 2

so if you want to find 50% of anything, you divide it by two.

What is 25%?

25% is half of a half.

its 100/2 which is 50. then 50/2 which is 25.

to find 25% you either divide by 4 or cut the whole in half then half again.

What is 10%?

10% one tenth of 100

to find a tenth of something you divide it by 10

10 is a tenth of 100 because 100/10 is 10.

What is 5%?

5% is 100 divided by 20

or you can find 10% and then cut it in half to get 5%

What is 1%?

1% is a number(100) divided by 100.

to find 1% of something you divide by 100.

CONVERSION:

percent to a decimal:

% divided by 100

eg:

23% / 100 = 0.23

Percent to a fraction:

% over 100

eg:

23%/100 = 23/100

Percent to a ratio:

%:100-%

Part 1 = %

part 2 = 100-%

eg:

23% = 23:77

Fractions:

Fraction to a decimal:

numerator divided by denominator

eg:

4/5 4 divided by 5 = 0.8

Fraction to percent:

Numerator divided by Denominator times 100

e.g

4/5 4 divided by 5 = 0.8 X 100 = 80%

Fraction to ratio:

Part 1 : part 2

part 1=numerator

part 2=denominator-numerator.

e.g.

4/5 = 4:1

Decimals:

Decimal to fraction:

.67

say it (sixty-seven hundredths)

write it 67/100

Decimal to percent:

decimal X 100

e.g

0.67 X 100= 67%

Decimal to ratio:

make the decimal into a fraction

N:D-N

e.g

0.67 = 67/100 = 67:33

Ratios:

Ratio to fraction:

part1/ part1 + part 2

e.g

7:3 = 7/10

8:4 = 8/12

Ratio to a decimal:

make the ratio into a fraction

Numerator divided by Denominator

= decimal.

eg.

7:3 = 7/10 = 7 divided by 10 = 0.7

ratio to percentage:

make the ratio into a fraction

N divided by D times 100

eg.

7:3 = 7/10 = 7 divided by 10 times 100 = 70%.
