Data Management & Graphing

You will be learning what Mean, Median, Mode and Range is and how to Graph!!

Data Management (also known as Measures of Central Tendency).......

Mean:

To find the mean you find the sum of all data and divide the number of pieces of data.  It is also called the "AVERAGE"

e.g.

DATA SET #1

3,3,6,12,17,25,40

1.First you add it all together.            3+3+6+12+17+25+40=106

2.Then you divide your answer by the number of pieces in set #1.

e.g:7 pieces  3+3+6+12+17+25+40=106

                                       7

106=15.14  15.14 is the Mean or "Average" of the

                                              7                          set of data.

Median:

The number in the middle of a set of data when it is arraged in numerical order is the median or "Middle."  If there are two medians and they are the same the median is that number.  But if they are different you add them together then divide by 2.  The median is the Mean of the 2 numbers.

DATA SET#2

3,3,6,12,12,17,25,40

e.g.

Mode:

The number that shows up the most.  There can be no-mode and more than 1 mode.

e.g.

Range:

The difference between the largest piece of data and the smallest piece of data.

Largest - Smallest - Range

40-5=35 (35 numbers between 5 and 40)

e.g.

GRAPHING.......

Graphing shows all the information given to you!

On a graph you have to show to things...

-y axis which is the Variable

-x axis which is your info you know

The x axis should always be the numbers you know oe figure number.

The y axis is the information that your finding out. Or the Variable.

- There are different kinds of graphs.

           - Bar Graph

           - Line Graph

           - T-Chart  (its not a graph but it works perfectly fine..)

- Here is an example of a T-chart.
