this is a grid. [ 96 out of a hundred = 96 % ]
this picture that shows 50 % = half
this is not a joke !
You may be thinking, "how will percents help us in life?"
WELL, we've got the answer.
what if you were asked a percentage question that if you got wrong, you would die.
or what if you came across a car sale and the cars were 50% off.
if you don't know about percents, you'd have to pay $12 000 for a car instead of $6000, (which is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY cheaper).
if you would like to learn about percents, answer some of these questions:
20 is 70% of what number?
- to get the answer, you would:
A) REWRITE:
- 20 = 70% of ____.
B) DIVIDE:
- 20/70 = 0.285
C) MULTIPLY:
- 0.285 x 100 = 28.5
D) REWRITE SOLUTION:
- 20 = 70% of 28.5
TO CHECK TO SEE IF IT IS RIGHT...
turn the percent into a fraction 70/100. Then into a decimal = 0.7
and check to see if it is equal to 20/28.5 by turning it into a decimal = 0.7
TIP: When you rewrite: "of" is 'multiply'
"is" is 'equals'
NOW TRY SOME FOR YOURSELF:
1.) What is 87% of 420?
2.) what percent of 65 is 50?
3.)75% of what number is 40?
HIGHLIGHT FOR ANSWERS:
1) 365.4
2) 76.9
3) 53.3
